The MDF panels that form the casing of the acoustic box fan itself are moisture resistant, a highly important aspect to consider when using inside a humid grow room. It doesn’t take much thought to realise that a metal object situated in a wet and humid grow room environment, will not see the usual lifespan it may be accustom to. Sealing these components off from the excess humidity not only prolongs the lifespan of the equipment, but also ensures they run at maximum capacity, for as long as possible.

The flange spigots have been carefully considered and designed to make sure that something as simple as attaching the ducting, does not become an infuriating and tedious task. Aluminium or acoustic ducting is easily attached to the spigots, designed with a roll top so as well as sliding on easily, they form a tight and solid natural seal with the duct run.

Gekko acoustic box fans are ideal to use as either an intake, or an extraction fan, when low levels of noise are of paramount importance. Careful consideration will always be needed when deciding which is the right size to go for. You need to choose the correct model to ensure that the volume of air inside your hydroponic grow room is adequately refreshed to ensure CO2 levels are optimal, and there is a minimal build-up of both heat and humidity.

Without an adequate amount of ventilation in your hydroponic grow room, photosynthesis levels will drop. Partly from depleted CO2 levels and partly from negative consequences on transpiration from a high heat or humidity. Without optimal photosynthesis, you will not achieve an optimal yield. Further to a potential drop in yield, you will also open yourself up to a much greater chance of pests and diseases. If there is only one thing you get right in your grow room, make sure it is having the correct ventilation system. This will make more difference to your plants than any bottle of expensive additive will.


It is not quite as easy as looking at the m3/h on the fans and choosing the model based on that. Especially if you are connecting your box fan to a carbon filter, you need to consider the increase in pressure this will have on the fan. When attaching a filter (or to a lesser degree, duct runs with bends in) you reduce the airflow that the fan can provide as it is essentially creating a resistance to that airflow. Making sure you choose the correct size of carbon filter for the relevant fan is crucial to ensuring you have a fully functioning extraction system.

You need to consider the sheer volume of your room, how much wattage of lights you have, and then other localised parameters like if it is on a south facing aspect of a property. Mounting the fans up high can be tricky as they can be quite weighty. It is advisable to make sure you have a spare pair of hands helping you to install these Gekko acoustic box fans correctly in your grow room. Ensure the surface you are hanging it from is suitable for bearing the load, especially for long term periods of time. Also ensure that you hang it with something appropriate for the job, like heavy duty chain or rope ratchets.

It is always preferable to use deluxe fast clamps and insulated ducting with Gekko box fans. The fast clamps will ensure the perfect air tight seal around the flange, while the insulated ducting will help further reduce and minimise any noise pollution heard from the unit.

It is always recommended to use premium fan speed controllers with these acoustic box fans, as cheaper units will tend to make the units’ hum, particularly when on their lower speed settings.
